Worcester Youth Poet Laureate Electrical Box Project

Vinyl wrapped electrical boxes, 2025.

Worcester City Hall, 455 Main St, Worcester, MA 01608

I was invited by the Worcester Cultural Development office in the City of Worcester to digitally design some wraps that would cover some electrical boxes around the city of Worcester, Massachusetts! Each portrays a Youth Poet Laureate from the city both past and present.

I spent a lot of time researching each of the poets learning their poems, topics they tend to lean towards and overall style. I then digitally designed each box, adding various references from their nicknames to symbols they mentioned in poems. Everything from the letter structure to the top of the boxes represent them!

Amina Mohammed

Worcester Youth Poet Laureate 2020-2021

Amina's work during her time as the Worcester Youth Poet Laureate from 2020-2021 felt honest, serene and personal- almost like having a nice, warm cup of hot chocolate at a local cafe while watching some snowflakes fall outside. Colors in this piece are subdued to reflect this feeling. Elements such as the 7 hills of Worcester in the background and the City's border mirror her steadfast presence as the city's first youth poet laureate.

Adael Mejia

Worcester Youth Poet Laureate 2022-2023

Adael brought a bright outlook and tenacious spirit to his term as Worcester’s Youth Poet Laureate from 2022 to 2023. His steadfast commitment to the community and his goal of empowering youth are reflected in the graffiti-inspired elements of the design. Soft pastel tones mirror the vibrant dreams and aspirations found in his work, including in his poem 'Look Mom I Can Fly.'"

Serenity Jackson

Worcester Youth Poet Laureate 2024-2025

Serving as the Worcester Youth Poet Laureate from 2024 to 2025, Serenity, or Lil Rennie, displays a hopeful, bright tone in her poems which is reflected in the colors and punchy elements in the piece. Her ability to listen deeply to the community, reflect on what they have to say and creatively craft a poem that was by and for the Heart!
