I painted this piece in Chinchiná, Caldas, Colombia. The wall is owned by a low-income school so I was happy to help bring color to their space. I also had family members that attended this school many years back so that was special.

I originally planned my trip to come to Colombia and stay in Medellin to paint there but when the opportunity presented itself to come to Chinchina, where I have a tonne of family that I haven’t seen in 20 years, I pounced at it. Here, I met the wonderful Jorge Cardona who helped me find a wall and paint the birds in this piece.

The meaning behind this piece is something about childlike curiosity and observing the world through the lens of a young person
